Kenya and Algeria to expand trade agreements soon

Kenya and Algeria will soon sign a Joint Commission cooperation that expands trade engagements between the two countries through the African Continental Free Trade Area frameworks (AfCFTA).
 
Algeria is a key and strategic partner of Kenya in several areas including; agriculture, defense, education, and many other sectors of mutual benefit.
 
Speaking after he held a meeting with Ahmed Attaf, Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad of The People's Democratic Republic of Algeria on the sidelines of the United Nation General Assembly (UNGA), Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi said he looked forward to the convening of the first session of the JCC scheduled to be held in Kenya.
 
“Our two countries must continue to work together to strengthen bilateral cooperation for the common good of the people of our two countries, the JCC scheduled to be held in Kenya to strengthen bilateral cooperation,” said Mudavadi.
 
Mudavadi, the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign And Diaspora Affairs, noted that The Joint Commission for Cooperation (JCC) offers an effective platform to develop a joint framework for strategic cooperation.
 
Mudavadi said Kenya is keen to expand trade engagements between our two countries through the African Continental Free Trade Area frameworks (AfCFTA).
 
“Kenya is a commercial hub for East and Central Africa, with a huge market of 400 million people, I invite Algerian investors to Kenya to take advantage of the vast market and investment opportunities,” said Mudavadi.
 
He thanked the Algerian government for donating 16,000 metric tonnes of fertilizer and also congratulated Algeria on its election to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) as a non-permanent member for 2 years (2024-2025).
 
The Prime Cabinet Secretary noted that Kenya and Algeria have supported each other at various international forums on issues of mutual interest including; peace and security, climate change, and agriculture.
 
“Kenya is dedicated to working closely with Algeria in the multilateral sector for the attainment of Agenda 2063 and the good of the African Continent.,” said Mudavadi.
 
Mudavadi requested Algeria to support former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for the position of Chairperson of the African Union Commission noting that the African Union Executive Council unanimously decided that the Eastern Africa Region is next in line.
 
“Raila Odinga’s remarkable leadership and exemplary career as a Pan–Pan-Africanist makes him a perfect fit to sit at the helm of the AUC and drive Africa’s transformation and Agenda 2063. He is an ardent champion of African unity, African integration, infrastructural connectivity, youth empowerment, and gender equality,” said Mudavadi.
 
On his part, Attaf said Algeria was ready for the JCC agreements.
 
“We are ready for the bilateral agreements, and we are waiting for Kenya to allow us to be in Nairobi for the signing,” said Attaf
